Valances
Decorate your windows with valances
A valance is a style of window treatment. Valances are short curtains that hang from the top of a window and only cover the top part of the pane of glass. They are often used to cover window treatment hardware, such as poles or joints, but valances can add a nice decorative touch to a room.
Valances look great when paired with blinds. An interior designer would probably say that the flowing fabric of a valance is a great way to break up the hard lines of a set of blinds. The average person would probably just say that it looks good. Valances allow homeowners to add color to an otherwise colorless set of blinds.
Valances are also a great way to control how much light enters into a room. Perhaps you have a small window and you don’t want to block the light by installing a set of drapes. A small valance can dress the window, but it won’t prevent much light from passing through.
It should be noted that it’s not uncommon for people to use the word “cornice” to describe valances. The two are not the same thing, however. Like valances, cornices can be used to hide window treatment hardware, but cornices are usually made of rigid materials and valances are made of soft fabric.
