Jabots

Adorn your windows with jabots

It’s weird to think about advancements in window treatment technology, but the truth is that we are living in a golden age of window adornments. We have far more choices than ever before when it comes to dressing our windows. Gone are the days when plain curtains hung from a single horizontal rod were the default window treatment.

Jabots are pleated fabrics that hang from the window frame to accentuate both ends of the swags (which hang from the top). In fact, some people say that swags are never complete without jabots. From afar, they often look like a single piece of fabric (and it is indeed possible to sew them together), but make no mistake – they are separate elements of window dressing. Keeping them separate allows for more creativity in decorating (think mixing and matching).

Making jabots

While it can be very fun to go shopping for jabots, some people prefer to make their own. If you look around online, you will find many fantastic patterns for jabots, some of which can be downloaded for free (or, at the very least, for a great price). Before you dive in and start making your own jabots, make sure that you know how to properly measure fabric. The last thing you want is jabots that don’t fit the size of your window.
