Chandeliers
If you've never seen one, a chandelier is a fixture mounted in a ceiling that has two or more arms with lights on them. Most modern chandeliers are very ornate and have dozens of small lamps and complex glass shapes on them which reflect the lights in attractive designs. They are often used in rooms with high ceilings and can be quite large and heavy. Your ceiling may need special attachments to hold the weight of a chandelier. Early chandeliers were simple wooden crosses with candles on them. They were used in churches and abbeys to light large rooms and halls. Today, chandeliers are usually found in dining rooms. When installed, your chandelier should hang about 30-inches above your table, so it will provide adequate lighting, but won't be in the way. Chandeliers come in various sizes, materials, styles, designs and colors. They range in price from about $50 to $25,000 online.
