Curtain Rods
Your guide to curtain hardware
Curtain rods are one of the easiest ways to add a little elegance or ambience to your home. Used to hang your curtains and drapery, they are available in many sleek and contemporary designs and colors, with decorative knobs that can be matched to complement any home decor.
Perhaps the most well-known type of curtain rods are spring rods, which are also called spring tension rods or simply tension rods. These curtain rods are capable of holding themselves up through the use of a spring that pushes the ends of the rods outward. Not requiring hardware, a spring tension rod holds the curtains between the window jamb or doorway.
Magnetic curtain rods are ideal for sheers and lightweight curtains and can be used in combination to create a layered effect of the window treatments. Magnetic curtain rods are the perfect solution for hanging curtains on steel doors or metal surfaces. These rods are easily adjusted to fit in side windows as small as 8 inches or door windows as wide as 44 inches.
Double curtain rods are similar to normal curtain rods except that they have two rods that enable layered or decorative curtains to be hung together. This will allow you to put up sheer and opaque layers of window treatments. Double curtain rods are great for decorative side panels or full drapes up front, with light-filtering sheers on the back curtain rod.
A place that carriescurtains will likely carry the hardware that you need to hang the curtains, as well. A variety of curtain hardware is available, each serving a fundamentally different purpose. Be certain to select your desired hardware before measuring for a window or door treatment. Upon selecting your window dressings, you will be faced with many choices, from curtain rods, conventional curtain rods, bay window curtain rods, double curtain rods, curtain tie back tassels, curtain rings, decorative drapery accessories, metal decorative curtain rods, curtain holdbacks and swag curtain holders, wood decorative curtain rods, wooden brackets and hardware. So, time and careful planning are necessary to get just the right style that fits your personality and home decor.
When you hang the hardware above the window, it is crucial that you get the hardware even and straight. If your window does not have molding, position the hardware at least 4 inches beyond the window frame. Otherwise, the hardware is attached to the outermost edges of the decorative molding. Add height to a room by installing drapery hardware well above the window frame, or even up along the ceiling line.
Whether your home is country style or more modern, curtain rods and drapery hardware are complementary to many different styles of furnishings.
