Cork Flooring
Another type of flooring suitable for kitchens, living rooms and even bathrooms is cork flooring. Cork is sound absorbent and hypoallergenic material and if maintained properly, cork can last for decades. There are basically two types of cork flooring - parquet tile and floating floor plank. Parquet tiles are recommended for bathrooms and are a little less expensive than plank. Parquet tile can be mixed-and-matched to make borders or a checkerboard style. Parquet tile can be easily cut to size providing various creative and decorative flooring options. For cork flooring installations below grade, or over top of an in-floor heating system, the use of floating floor plank is recommended. Floor plank consists of three layers. Two of these are made of cork, which helps provide a type of sound proofing. Cork is also durable, soft and comfortable as it acts as an insulator. It is available in various thickness, patterns and colors. Cork flooring averages about $5 per square foot online.
