Benefits of Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers

Many homeowners may not be aware of the potential health concerns associated with humidity levels in the home which are too high or too low. Maintaining accurate humidity levels are beneficial in a number of ways:

Humidifiers are the best way to increase the moisture levels in your home. These systems come in the form of whole home systems or portable models, depending on how bad the situation is in your home. Obviously, whole home systems cost significantly more than portable systems, however if your home requires a system it is worth the cost.

Sometimes homes will require a dehumidifier instead of a humidifier. Dehumidifiers take the moisture out of areas when the humidity levels are too high. For example, basements that get wet as a result of water leaking from the walls will require some form of basement waterproofing. A dehumidifier is effective in eliminating the moisture in these areas and preventing wooden beams and supports from rotting in the future. Although dehumidifiers are not capable of eliminating large amounts of water, they are successful in eliminating the moisture on the walls, ceilings and floors.

These units can cost anywhere from $15 to hundreds of dollars depending on the make, style and design of the unit. The type you choose will depend on your current humidity levels, your personal preferences and how much money you are willing to spend. Spending a few extra dollars can highly improve the effectiveness of the unit you choose.
