Patio doors are most commonly either swinging or sliding models. Although aluminum or vinyl sliding patio doors are by and far the more popular models they loose heat much faster because they are made primarily of glass. Swinging screen patio doors provide better insulation because they trap a layer of insulating air between the swinging vinyl or aluminum door and the solid exterior doors. Sliding patio doors are now made with multiple layers of glass and one screen slider to improve insulation. Patio sliders move on a series of ball bearing rollers so that slide easily back and forth.
