Hollow Core Doors
Hollow-core doors are made for interior use only. They are typically very cheaply constructed of two pieces of thin veneer plywood. Between the plywood sheets sit supports made of cardboard that keep the door rigid. Hollow core doors often serve as doors to closets, children's rooms or any room where sound insulation isn't important. For example, you may want to have a hollow core door on your child's playroom so you can hear what's going on even when the door is closed. Even though hollow core doors are ineffective sound barriers, they provide a flat, private surface to paint or stain for those on a modest budget, or until a more solid door can serve as replacement.
