Vital bathroom components

Good plumbing is a great investment for your home. Many older homes have plumbing that has not stood the test of time, so when it comes time to renovate an older bathroom, it’s worth paying an expert to tell you if it needs to be updated.

Water filtration systems

You may want to begin your bathroom renovation by installing a water filtration system that will ensure the purity of the water coming into the bathroom. You might even want to fit the house with a system that will purify all the water coming into the house. A good water filtration system will clean incoming water of chemicals, metals and other contaminants that not only make your water taste bad, but also can have an effect on your skin and hair in the shower. These contaminants can be present in city- or well-provided water, or they may be added as water flows through older pipe systems. Filtration systems can also remove hardness of water that results in mineral buildup on shower heads and inside taps.

Drains

Bathroom drains are particularly susceptible to clogging because we are constantly primping our hair near them, and because we use heavier products like soaps and toothpaste that can clump together around the hair to stop the water from draining properly. It is important to keep your bathroom drains as free of clogs as possible because chemicals that are effective in clog removal can be corrosive and wear down the plumbing fixtures. Whenever possible, clogs should be cleared by hand or with a plunger so that the natural water force is used instead of corrosive cleaners.

Taps

The taps or faucets you choose to use in your bathroom can add to the room’s overall look. In fact, if your bathroom fixtures are sound, you may opt to add a new look by changing only the taps. There are many different looks available that will run from less than $200 to over $1,000. Changing a faucet is fairly simple as long as the new faucet’s housing matches that of the old faucet. If you are choosing a set with an entirely different footprint, it’s best if the new footprint is larger than the old. It should fit over the old one so that you don’t have gaps or holes after installation.
