If you’re planning on renovating your bathroom then you’ll most likely come across pipe fittings. Pipe fittings are just hardware devices used to connect pipes together or to change the direction of piping. They can join as many as four pipes into a single fitting or connect pipes of different materials. Some of the different types of pipe fittings include elbows (curved), tees (three-way fitting in a “T” shape), crosses (four-way fitting), unions (straight, two-way fitting) and caps. Pipe fittings can be used to connect pipes of the same size or pipes of different sizes. For example, if you have a ½ inch pipe that needs to be connected with a ¾ pipe then you will need a pipe fitting which has one end at ½ inches and the other at ¾ inches. Pipe fittings are easy to install and can be purchased from any plumbing supplies retailer. They can be found in a variety of materials including plastic, copper, iron, and aluminum, but stainless steel is the most popular type. The most important thing to remember when buying pipe fittings is to select the appropriate size. Most fittings are measured in standard Metric (millimeters) and Standard English sizes (inches).
