Drain pans, also referred to as shower pans, is the technical name for the base of your shower where the drain is installed. When remodeling or installing a new shower in your bathroom you’ll also have to install a new drain pan. The shower pan is what you stand on when in the shower, and is usually made of some form of non-slip material. Around the edge of the drain pan there is a lip or raised edge that keeps the water from leaking out onto the floor. Drain pans are available in many different shapes to fit all kinds of shower stalls. They also come in a variety of decorative colors. For example, you can go with a classic white or a daring black. When choosing a drain pain you want to look for one that is easy-to-clean and has a textured or ridged bottom for safe use. Most shower pans are made of an acrylic, fiberglass or ceramic material. However, if you want your shower to have a more natural feel you can install a tiled drain pan. Keep in mind that the tiles won’t feel as smooth under you feet but the finished look will be quite amazing.
